The Art Center Highland Park (TAC) is bringing creativity to you with online art classes tailored for travelers, those homebound, or anyone looking to explore their artistic side—just because!
"We had been planning to introduce some online classes at the end of 2019 and were set for a trial run in the spring of 2020. Then COVID hit," explains Executive Director James Lynch. "Our plans accelerated overnight. Within two weeks of the shutdown, we had 80 classes online and were gearing up for our 'Art Camp in a Box' program."
Fast forward five years, and TAC continues to offer a vibrant array of online classes, with plans to expand even further. Current offerings focus primarily on painting across various mediums and themes, such as painting in the style of the masters, color mixing, and a fan-favorite, "Rock Star Art."
Although the classes are virtual, the connections are very real. According to TAC’s Director of Education Mairin Hartt, "Some classes even organize meetups during the semester. It’s great to see these groups connect and meet outside of class."
This June, TAC proudly celebrates its 65th anniversary. Throughout the year, the center offers over 80 classes for all ages and skill levels, organized into 8-to-10-week semesters. Additional offerings include shorter Winter and Spring "mini" sessions and an à la carte Summer Camp each year.
Recognized as the cultural hub of the North Shore, TAC is more than just classes. The center features four art galleries, and throughout the month it hosts poetry readings, storytelling events, drum circles, and captivating talks by artists and educators. Signature events include the Fall Recycled Art Sale, the Spring Benefit, and the family-friendly summer tradition, "Draw Together," a lively sidewalk chalk festival.
The Art Center Highland Park is located at 1957 Sheridan Road, Highland Park, just steps from the Central Business District. The facility is fully handicap accessible.
